The Fixed Steady is fitted to the lathe's bed, typically between the headstock and saddle. The fingers of the steady are adjusted to ensure concentricity of the workpiece, irrespective of its length. With the steady in place, the end of a workpiece can be turned, bored or threaded without the need for tailstock support. A typical application would be for the production of a cylindrical spindle housing or threading the ends of a crankshaft.
Our steady includes adjusting screws for the fingers, making for ease of adjustment. The 2 aluminium castings provide a maximum capacity of Ø2" and the kit includes all necessary material together with drawings and construction notes.
