Making A Purchase
Making a purchase could not be easier. Picture our website as an unmanned supermarket - have a good look and a good think without interuption! If something takes your fancy just click the "BUY" icon and it will be added to your "Shopping Cart". No money changes hands yet and you can carry on browsing all day. Feel free to abandon your cart in the middle of an aisle and run away. We'll never know; there are no security cameras! After you have finished your selection, click on "Checkout" and you will be asked for the details that we need to be able to satisfy your order.
We are happy to accept Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards. You can also choose to pay with Paypal. If you are shopping from outside the UK, place your order and your card company or Paypal will convert the Pounds Sterling transaction to your own currency.
Whilst the quickest way to send your card details is via our encrypted internet ordering system, you may also send your credit card information via phone, fax or post. Once your order has been accepted, an email is sent automatically, confirming the details you have given.

Shipping And Handling
UK SHIPPING We have negotiated a 2/3 day delivery rate of £8.25 for all UK orders above 2kg. Below this weight, one of us will just have to walk down to the Post Office....
There are of course some dark parts of the British Isles where carriers fear to tread: the wild and wooly highlands and islands, beautiful downtown Belfast and the gin palaces of Jersey, Guernsey and the Isles of Man & Wight for example. If you are ordering from one of these exotic haunts, please expect a higher price for parcels over 2kg.
EXPORT SHIPPING For parcels weighing below 2kg, we will send your delivery by the Royal Mail's small packet service. Above 2.0kg we use several larger groups including Parcelforce, Fedex, UPS and DPD and we have included these rates in our catalogue's database. Typical delivery times are 7 days to either the Antipodes, the Colonies or the Continent.
Shipping costs are set in weight bands. There is a sliding scale up to 2kg, then a fixed price for parcels from 2 to 5kg, 5 to 10kg, 10 to 15kg and 15 to 25kg. As you can imagine....a parcel weighing 2.2kg or 15.5kg could be frustratingly expensive. One way out of this is to order more (hooray!) or less (boo!) items in order to improve the shipping cost per kg. If you have a look at the bottom of the "Catalogue Download" page you'll see a list of the weights of all of our kits.
We must reserve the right to confirm any adjustments BEFORE we process your order. |
Delivery Lead times In general, we "Make to Order" rather than "Make to Stock". We will normally despatch your UK orders in 3 business days. International orders are generally despatched in under 5 days.
Occasionally, you'll catch us waiting for certain items (typically castings) to arrive.... At our option, we may decide to forward your incomplete kit together with a note declaring the shortage(s). This allows you to make a start. We will then forward, at our expense, the missing items once they are available. If the delay is likely to be substantial, or if we are missing an item without which you can't start your project, we'll get in touch and discuss it with you. |
Liability We the suppliers, Hemingway Kits, will not accept responsibility for personal injury or damage to property arising directly or indirectly out of the use by customers of our kits and workshop accessories nor will we accept liability for any claims made for personal injury or damage to property resulting from customers carrying out any instructions supplied by us (such instructions being for information purposes only).
The placing of an order shall be deemed as acceptance of the above terms of business.

European VAT Hemingway Kits is registered for UK VAT (20%) and all of the prices shown include this tax. Our EORI registration number is GB876605391000. For shipments made to customers living outside of the UK (including our friends in Europe) this tax will be discounted from your order as you progress through the checkout. The exemption however is not applied to shipping costs or orders for plans or books which are "zero rated".
Incidentally, if you play with your calculator, you'll see that to remove 20% from a tax-inclusive price you need to divide it by 1.2 (NOT multiply it by 0.8..).

Our Privacy Policy Hemingway Kits seeks to comply with the UK Data Protection Act 1998 and takes all reasonable care to prevent any unauthorised access to your personal data. The personal data that we collect is used to ensure efficient processing of your order. This information is used by us for contacting and identifying customers and their needs. We will not give, sell, rent, or loan any personally identifiable information to any third party, unless we are legally required to do so or you authorise us to do so. Your phone number in particular is treated with complete respect and used only if there is a problem with your order or its delivery.
For orders placed online, all payment card details are encrypted when your order is placed and decrypted only after they reach our system; they are not held in clear text on any website. Card details are permanently deleted from our system once payment authorisation has been obtained - we do not store this data.
Cookies are used on our site to keep track of the contents of your shopping cart once you have selected an item, to store delivery addresses if the address book is used and to store your details if you select the 'Remember Me' Option.

Our Returns Policy Your Satisfaction It is very important to us that you are satisfied with your order. So, if you are not, please contact us straight away - almost all problems can be solved quickly in this way. If you change your mind about your purchase, please return the unused items to us within 14 days for a full refund. This policy does not affect your usual consumer rights.
The occasional faulty casting is inevitable from the low volume processes that we employ. Therefore any such casting returned will be replaced free of charge, together with a credit note for the shipping cost which you have incurred. We cannot, however, accept claims for labour or other costs arising from such faults.
There's also an infinitessimally small chance that YOU will scrap an item?! Please get in touch and you'll find we show as much mercy as possible in pricing a replacement part for you.
All products are described and shown as accurately as possible. However, customers are given the full benefit, AT ONCE, of any improvements to designs and specifications.
Our Satisfaction! We love what we do and are always pleased to hear about your successful projects. Photograph are always welcome together with any comments you can offer about your improvements, alternative set-ups and product configurations for specific machine tools or jobs.
